Best of the Weston Series

These 6 photographs are what I think best represent my recently made Weston-style photo series.

"Fruits" (Edward Weston photo set 3)

This is the 3rd set of the Edward Weston series. In this I focused on fruits, such as apples and pomegranates I inadvertently captured an additional style, soft-focus pictorialism, in a few shots of the apple.

"Pears and Peppers" (Edward Weston photo set 2)

This is photo set 2 of the Edward Weston series. Weston was well-known for his photographs of peppers, which were my focus for this set.

"Shells" (Edward Weston photo set 1)

I have selected Edward Weston as my photographer of choice for a research assignment. I am currently in the phases of taking pictures through what I determined his style to be. In my photographs, my focus is on a single organic subject, such as a shell or food, shot in black and white against a solid black background. My aim is to bring out the textures and lines of the subjects in my photographs. Weston shot with a low exposure value, which I have also done in order to capture his particular style. The subjects fill most of the frame of the photograph. This is the first set of 6 photographs of the project, titled "Shells".

In this photo series we are working with small figurines, and are attempting to make them more lifelike by positioning and spacing them in a way one might see in real life.

Rule of thirds 2

Continued, having the focus of an image being in the last third of a photo either on the left or right. Included in this shoot are another lantern and a window.

Rule of Thirds 1

For the "Rule of Thirds" photoset, we are encouraged to break out of the typical pictures with a point of  focus in the center. The goal here is to have the focal point of the picture taking up about 1/3rd of the image on the left or right side.

Depth staging 2

Another set of 3 photos as part of the depth staging assignment, having the camera focus on an object in the foreground set against a larger background to create a sense of depth. Images partially saturated via photoshop.

Here is a series of 3 shots demonstrating "depth staging", or having objects in the foreground and background to specifically get a sense of depth and distance in a shot.
